Residents of Tatumbla in Francisco Morazán report power cuts lasting 20 to 48 hours, especially during rainy season, caused by deteriorating electrical infrastructure, and are calling on the state utility ENEE to install new transformers and repair aging lines and poles.

The national power utility ENEE has announced maintenance-related outages on July 16 affecting neighborhoods in Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, and other parts of Honduras, with disruptions lasting from early morning through mid-afternoon in each area.

Tegucigalpa faces a water deficit of roughly 100 million cubic meters, and officials say the planned San José dam, though helpful, will not meet the capital's growing demand; authorities are contracting private wells and studying water transfers from other regions.

Tegucigalpa's water authority reported that aging, broken pipes lose between 40 and 45 percent of the capital's water supply daily, leaving residents with only 90,000 of the 250,000 cubic meters needed, and warned that the two main reservoirs may reach critical levels by August or September without adequate rainfall.

ENEE has scheduled maintenance-related power cuts in San Pedro Sula on Friday, July 3, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., affecting residential neighborhoods, businesses, schools, and institutions across two service areas.

ENEE has scheduled maintenance outages on June 23 affecting La Guama and surrounding towns (8:30 AM–4:30 PM), San Pedro Sula neighborhoods (8:45 AM–2:45 PM), and Juticalpa and much of Olancho (8:00 AM–4:00 PM).

Residents in Santa Bárbara, Atlántida, and Lempira are protesting recurring blackouts lasting up to three days, citing damage to appliances, food spoilage, and lack of official communication from the national power utility ENEE.

The CA-5 Norte, a 158-kilometer highway built to international standards and connecting Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula, records frequent accidents because drivers regularly exceed posted speed limits even in high-risk curves; experts say more than 100 deaths this year have occurred on the corridor alone.
