Tegucigalpa faces critical water shortages as reservoir levels risk falling to 15–20% capacity if rains do not increase by late August, forcing many families to ration supplies and rely on water trucks while authorities warn of health risks from prolonged storage.

The two main reservoirs supplying Tegucigalpa, Los Laureles and La Concepción, have fallen to 41.3% and 39% capacity respectively, prompting authorities to maintain a high-risk water alert and urge residents to conserve.

The Los Laureles and La Concepción reservoirs serving Tegucigalpa hold only 36.6% and 42.2% of their respective capacities, maintaining a high-risk water alert for the capital as authorities urge rational use.

Tegucigalpa's mayor warned that the capital's water shortage will persist as reservoirs remain critically low — La Concepción at 42% and Los Laureles at 33% — with relief not expected until a new dam, set to serve 350,000 people, is completed in early 2028.
