With Tegucigalpa facing acute water shortages, the municipal water authority UMAPS is operating three authorized fill stations for private cisterns at L75–L125 per load (about $3–$5), Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tegucigalpa's municipal code permits residential households to store up to 40 cubic meters (about 40,000 liters) of water in cisterns and imposes fines of up to 300 lempiras for wasteful practices such as leaving taps open or hosing down houses during the capital's ongoing water shortage.
