A UNAH researcher warns that 750,000 Hondurans face severe food insecurity in July–August, while 1.4 million more experience moderate insecurity, with drought and flooding threatening to worsen the crisis.

Fenagh, the national farm federation, warns that irregular rainfall and the imminent onset of the mid-July dry season could slash agricultural output by up to 30 percent, with current losses already at 20 percent.

Honduras imports over 40 million pounds of avocados annually at a cost of $12–15 million in foreign exchange, and producers say strengthening domestic cultivation across the country's 1,200 farms could reduce dependency and support the agricultural economy.

Honduras has renewed 70,000 acres of coffee plants through a program coordinated by the Agriculture Ministry and the Institute for Honduran Coffee, with officials projecting output will rise to 7 million quintals this harvest from 6.14 million the prior year.

Domestic rice output has fallen below 500,000 quintals against annual demand of 6 million, leaving Honduras to import roughly 90% of its supply from the US, Brazil, and Paraguay.
