Honduras has one million measles vaccine doses available at over 1,800 health centers nationwide, but about 90,000 children under five remain unprotected, as authorities work to boost immunization rates amid a confirmed outbreak.

Honduras's Health Ministry is advising parents to vaccinate infants as young as 6 months old against measles during the current outbreak, with follow-up doses at 12 and 18 months.

Health authorities confirmed a six-month-old infant in Cortés contracted measles, bringing Honduras's total to 12 cases, and warned that vaccination coverage of only 70% falls far short of the 95% needed to prevent a wider outbreak.

Starting August 1, Honduras will shift vaccination records from paper to a digital national system, allowing health authorities to track immunizations in real time, identify people needing doses, and improve disease prevention planning.

Honduras's Health Ministry completed a national workshop to roll out a digital vaccination-record system nationwide, moving toward a computerized immunization database.

Health authorities in the capital have set up vaccination clinics at shopping malls, supermarkets, and the national university to increase access to flu, tetanus, and measles shots, responding to two imported measles cases confirmed in Honduras.

Honduras will offer measles vaccinations at major airports—including San Pedro Sula, La Ceiba, and Roatán—for travelers heading to countries with active outbreaks; the vaccine must be administered at least 14 days before travel.

A new measles case has been confirmed in Honduras, prompting Congressman and physician Bayron Banegas to urge health authorities to immediately implement epidemiological containment measures and strengthen disease surveillance to prevent wider transmission.

The Health Ministry is urging Hondurans to visit their nearest vaccination site on May 30–31 to complete their immunization schedules, reminding them to bring their vaccination cards.

The Health Secretariat announced it is extending the National Vaccination and Deworming Campaign through June to reach more families across the country.
