A total of 159 Honduran deportees arrived at Ramón Villeda Morales Airport in La Lima, Cortés, on two flights from the United States, including a 25-year-old who spent seven years abroad and plans to return to agricultural work.

Honduras's foreign minister said the end of Temporary Protected Status for over 55,000 Hondurans in the US does not mean all beneficiaries must return immediately, as individual cases will depend on family ties, residency length, and pending legal proceedings.

Erick Ruiz López, deported to Honduras after a routine traffic stop in Houston on June 17, is suing the Houston Police Department for allegedly detaining him unlawfully for over two hours past the traffic infraction, enabling his transfer to ICE.

Honduras has recorded 29,444 deportations through July 31, with about 27,000 from the United States, and migration lawyer Illich Cornejo warns the annual total could reach 40,000–50,000 due to tougher U.S. immigration policies.

Foreign Minister Mireya Agüero said the government remains committed to supporting the roughly 55,000 Hondurans with Temporary Protected Status as a federal appeals court reviews the US Department of Homeland Security's termination of the program.

Official data shows 984 Hondurans were deported between June 15–19, averaging 140 per day, as the country records 22,397 deportations so far in 2026, with the International Organization for Migration reporting a 43.3% increase in returns compared to the same period in 2025.

The US deported 17,650 Hondurans in the first five months of 2026, a 71% increase from the same period last year, as the country grapples with the return of migrants who left due to violence, poverty, and lack of opportunity.
