Rio Ulua

The Infrastructure Ministry has completed a breakwater in Manacalito, Puerto Cortés, to shield over 200 families and roughly 3,700 acres of cropland from flooding and erosion by the Ulúa River.

Infrastructure crews built over 1 kilometer of stone barriers along the Ulúa River in El Progreso, Yoro, to prevent erosion and protect riverbanks serving roughly 1,700 residents in three nearby communities.

Residents of northern El Progreso say the earthen levees built along the Ulúa River lack proper reinforcement and solid barriers to withstand heavy rains, raising fears of flooding in vulnerable communities as the wet season intensifies.
