Five months after the Attorney General's office submitted a draft modernizing Honduras's public-contracting rules—with digital tools, certified suppliers, and tighter controls—Congress says it has not yet received the formal executive version needed to begin legislative review.

Honduras's accounting tribunal will investigate L15.9 million (about $636,000) paid for two presidential meeting rooms at the Supreme Court during Rebeca Raquel Obando's tenure, after a failed public bid, a closed private bidding, and cost overruns of nearly L3 million above the original contract.

La Prensa's investigation of government contracts found that Honduras's now-defunct Strategic Planning Ministry spent more than 2.2 million lempiras (about $88,000) on breakfasts, lunches, and catering for workshops, meetings, and internal events between 2023 and 2025, with over 8,300 food services contracted in total.

Jorge Moreira da Silva, the UN's deputy secretary-general and executive director of UNOPS, said the agency will push for transparent, competitive procurement processes in Honduras while expanding collaboration on infrastructure, renewable energy, and climate resilience.
