The anti-extortion and counterterrorism division arrested a man known as "El Matata," allegedly an MS-13 gang leader in the Sula Valley, seizing a firearm and cocaine with an illicit market value of over 750,000 lempiras (about $30,000).

The Infrastructure Ministry is overseeing Stage IV mitigation work in Cortés, including reconstruction of protective levees along the Chamelecón River near Choloma to shield Las Vegas community from seasonal flooding.

Copeco forecasts moderate rainfall across the Sula Valley from Tuesday through Friday, mainly in afternoon and evening hours, as Caribbean moisture feeds the region; authorities urge residents to avoid swollen waterways and report emergencies.

Of 32 dike and flood-control projects underway across the Sula Valley ahead of the rainy season, only six are finished, 26 are roughly half-done, and several have not started, with the Infrastructure Ministry estimating completion in July.

Honduras is conducting laboratory testing on soil and rock samples from dyke-reconstruction projects in the Sula Valley to ensure materials can withstand flooding and river swelling, with tests including soil classification, permeability, and structural-load capacity.
