Traffic Congestion

A L29 million (about $1.16 million) road-improvement project at the Los Cármenes intersection in San Pedro Sula — covering paving, a roundabout, signage, curbs, and retaining walls — is causing severe traffic congestion and will continue for at least two months, municipal officials say.

Infrastructure Minister Aníbal Ehrler announced a L40 million (about $1.6 million) package of road improvements south of Tegucigalpa, including bridge widening, an elevated roadway, a new access bridge, a tunnel, and Periférico Ring upgrades to ease congestion.

At least six vehicles, including a municipal water tanker and a cement mixer, collided on the city's ring road near San Miguel, causing heavy congestion; no injuries have been reported yet.
