A court in San Pedro Sula found three people guilty of human trafficking, forced labor, aggravated assault, and illegal adoption of four children they exploited in scrap collection under threats and chains in Puerto Cortés, with potential sentences of up to 37 years each.

The National Registry (RNP) began enrolling children ages 6–17 in a new biometric identity document called Dinna, targeting 2.3 million minors through 23,836 schools nationwide in a $40 million World Bank–funded program aimed at guaranteeing the right to identity and preventing trafficking.
