Medical Workers

Cardinal Óscar Andrés Rodríguez called on striking physicians to halt over 40 days of work stoppages that have suspended routine medical care, arguing that patient health must take priority over salary disputes and that the action violates Christian ethics.

The Health Ministry says it will clear most outstanding payments to 273 contract doctors by Friday, as the medical profession's 37-day protest has led to 2,000–3,000 canceled surgeries and more than 12,000 missed outpatient consultations nationwide.

About 500 public-sector physicians are protesting unpaid salaries stretching two to five months back and demanding reinstatement of colleagues they say the government fired, causing partial service cuts across Honduras's public hospitals.
