UN Special Rapporteur Morris Tidball-Binz has called on Honduras to investigate and prosecute both the perpetrators and masterminds behind the Rigores massacre in Trujillo, Colón — in which 20 peasant farmers, including three children, were killed — and to guarantee reparations and non-repetition for affected communities.

On March 6, 2016, five armed men dressed as police officers entered a billiard hall in Tegucigalpa's Primero de Diciembre neighborhood and opened fire with AK-47s, killing 12 people and wounding three in one of Honduras's deadliest massacres.

Five members of the Reyes family were found slain in their San Pedro Sula home on June 17, 2004; investigators suspect drug trafficking, but no one has been convicted in the case despite evidence of hidden compartments and unexplained wealth.

Authorities are investigating whether the May 21 massacre of 20 people in Rigores, Trujillo, was retaliation for the February killing of Ruth Nohemy Monroy, 17, the wife of recently arrested gang leader Alexis Molina Mencía.
