Honduras has enacted criminal-code reforms raising femicide sentences from 25–30 years to up to 60 years for aggravated cases and establishing specialized courts staffed exclusively by women judges to handle femicide and violence-against-women cases.

Honduras, where a woman is killed every 32 hours, has approved sweeping Penal Code reforms raising femicide sentences to as high as 60 years and mandating specialized courts to handle gender-violence cases.

Criminal defense attorney Jaime Rodríguez is urging the creation of a commission — including prosecutors, defense lawyers, and other legal bodies — to conduct a comprehensive review of the recently enacted reforms to Honduras's Penal Code and Code of Criminal Procedure.

Honduras's Supreme Court has submitted its legal opinion to Congress on proposed reforms to three Penal Code articles governing femicide, including a proposal to create specialized judicial bodies to handle such cases.
