Housing Minister Francis Argeñal announced a $400 million National Comprehensive Housing Plan, funded by the Latin American Development Bank and administered by the state housing bank Banhprovi, to provide mortgages to eligible families beginning in September.

The National Housing Bank (BANHPROVI) plans to begin distributing L11 billion (about $440 million) in new financing from the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) for housing projects starting in late September 2026.

Honduras's state housing bank Banhprovi has only 300 million lempiras (about $12 million) available for first-tier lending and zero fresh funds for second-tier lending, constraining mortgage credit for families and limiting construction projects amid an estimated 1.6 million housing deficit.

Only about 3,000 social homes may be built this year because the state housing bank BANHPROVI has not yet received promised funds, though officials say $500 million annually could flow by late August if IMF talks proceed.
