The national utility ENEE will cut power on July 9 across parts of Colón, Cortés, El Paraíso, and Olancho for seven to nine hours of distribution-network maintenance, affecting residential, commercial, industrial, and rural zones.

Honduras's state power utility ENEE has announced widespread outages on July 7 affecting Colón, Santa Bárbara, Cortés, Copán, Francisco Morazán, and Olancho departments between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. for scheduled maintenance work.

Departments in western Honduras including Ocotepeque and Copán have suffered over 9,900 minutes without electricity in the first six months of 2026, blamed on aging infrastructure over 40 years old; ENEE says it will upgrade substations and trim vegetation to reduce outages.

The state utility ENEE will conduct scheduled maintenance and grid-strengthening work on June 18, causing outages lasting four to eight hours in sectors across Francisco Morazán, Choluteca, Cortés, Santa Bárbara, and Colón.

A dispute over overlapping duties between the interim technical chief and the administrative director at Honduras's largest hydroelectric plant, El Cajón, is stalling procurement of vital parts needed to keep all four turbines running, according to internal communications obtained by El Heraldo.
