Pedro Alexander Díaz Franco, a 15-year-old Honduran TikTok content creator, was kidnapped on July 5 in Choloma and later found dead in plastic bags along a highway, sparking international media coverage and outrage on social media.

Child welfare organizations reported that 197 minors died in Honduras during the first six months of 2026, with 47% from traffic accidents and 37% from homicides, and warned that violence is now spreading beyond the three historically hardest-hit departments.

Some 136 alternative-care centers housing vulnerable children have received no government disbursements or agreements from the child-welfare agency SENAF since January 2026, forcing them to rely on private donations amid at least 190 violent deaths of minors in Q1 2026.
