Child Deaths

Six members of a family, five of them children, died in a house fire in an impoverished neighborhood of San Pedro Sula on Wednesday; the cause remains under investigation.

Child welfare organizations reported that 197 minors died in Honduras during the first six months of 2026, with 47% from traffic accidents and 37% from homicides, and warned that violence is now spreading beyond the three historically hardest-hit departments.

Honduras's Health Ministry confirmed three dengue deaths in 2026, including a 16-year-old and a 6-year-old in Choluteca, and warned that patients arriving late at hospitals face much lower survival rates; officials urged immediate care at the first sign of symptoms.
