Women Migrants

A 2026 qualitative study of 15 women survivors of gender-based violence found that nine were Honduran, documenting how migrants fleeing violence at home encounter further risks—including sexual extortion, kidnapping, and trafficking—while crossing Mexico.

The International Organization for Migration reports that 1,449 women died while migrating through the Americas from 2014 to present, with 795 deaths on the Mexico–US border alone, most from desert exposure, criminal violence, and extreme conditions.
