Deteriorating streets and numerous potholes in central San Pedro Sula are damaging vehicles, creating traffic hazards, and generating sanitation problems as water pools in damaged areas, residents and merchants say.

Lawmakers approved 18 infrastructure projects for Tegucigalpa, Comayagüela, and surrounding municipalities, including road construction, water systems, markets, housing, and flood-control works, with contracts dating from 2023–2026.

Tegucigalpa loses 40–45% of its water supply to deteriorating pipes as the capital's 35-year-old system struggles to serve two million people; the municipality is pursuing $155 million in repairs and a new dam expected to open in early 2028.

Tegucigalpa's water authority reported that aging, broken pipes lose between 40 and 45 percent of the capital's water supply daily, leaving residents with only 90,000 of the 250,000 cubic meters needed, and warned that the two main reservoirs may reach critical levels by August or September without adequate rainfall.

Heavy rains have left streets waterlogged in the Montefresco Este neighborhood of San Pedro Sula for days, forcing school closures and disrupting commerce; residents say the chronic drainage problem persists despite years of complaints.

The National Congress telecommunications committee approved a proposal requiring cable and telecom companies to remove unused cables within 60 days, with fines up to L250,000 (about $10,000) for noncompliance.

La Reforma Street in Tegucigalpa's El Manchén neighborhood is 90% complete in repairs following a sinkhole near San Pablo Market, with authorities saying the work will soon restore traffic flow and safety on this key alternate route in the capital.
