Honduras's agricultural health agency has intensified efforts against the screwworm parasite by training 49,000 farmers and inspecting over 950,000 animals, as the pest has caused nearly 8,000 cases and three deaths since 2024.

Honduras has recovered its status as a country free of avian influenza after three months of coordinated work with the poultry sector, the National Agricultural Health Service announced.

Honduras has controlled an avian influenza outbreak in a commercial farm and is preparing technical documentation to resume poultry and egg exports to regional trading partners.

The Agriculture Ministry's health agency (Senasa) is training veterinarians, importers, and customs agents on requirements and procedures for importing animal products and veterinary medicines to strengthen biosecurity and ensure compliance with import controls.

Honduras's agricultural health agency has processed 5,312 laboratory samples and monitored over 8.5 million birds across 125 farms to detect high-pathogenicity H5 avian influenza, focusing on rural communities and backyard flocks deemed most vulnerable to the virus's spread.

Honduras is keeping its avian influenza health emergency in effect after confirming one case in a commercial poultry farm and over 500 cases in wild birds, saying that lifting the emergency could ease biosecurity measures and allow spread to commercial operations.

Agriculture authorities will allow only processed pork products from disease-free zones in Spain, maintaining a ban on fresh pork imports to protect domestic producers and prevent disease entry.

Honduras's national poultry association confirmed sufficient chicken and egg production to meet demand after authorities detected avian influenza at a farm in Santa Bárbara, with the sector working with health officials to enforce biosecurity measures and prevent spread.

Authorities in Santa Bárbara culled 32,000 birds at a farm in San Pedro Zacapa after confirming a case of H5 avian influenza, and have quarantined the facility; officials say the outbreak is under control and eggs and chicken remain safe for consumers.

Senasa director Rafael Rodríguez affirmed that Honduras remains disease-free in its pig herds, a status he said strengthens domestic pork production and ensures safe meat for consumers.

Senasa confirmed detection of avian influenza at a commercial poultry farm in San Pedro Zacapa, Santa Bárbara, triggering containment protocols to prevent spread.

Honduras's agricultural health authority has confirmed avian influenza in wild birds, particularly black vultures, and has collected about 450 dead birds while monitoring over 150,000 backyard poultry in 90 communities to prevent spread to domestic flocks.

Honduras's agricultural authority confirmed H5N1 avian influenza in black vultures found dead in El Higuito, Lempira, and activated containment protocols; domestic poultry in the area remain healthy, but officials urged stronger biosecurity measures.
