Honduras's Education Ministry confirmed the 2026 school year closes on November 30, with October and November featuring national exams, civic holidays, professional internship reports, and makeup sessions for students who did not meet minimum standards.

Honduras's Education Ministry reported that 21,420 students have dropped out or canceled enrollment so far this year, with two months remaining in the school term; male students account for 55.6% of those who left.

Millions of required textbooks remain undelivered across Honduras as the academic year approaches its end, disrupting classroom instruction nationwide.

Congress is considering legislation to limit cellphone use during school hours, and Education Minister Arely Argueta said the ministry supports measures to reduce classroom distractions while preserving access for emergencies and safety.

Education Minister Arely Argueta said the ministry is analyzing which support staff to cut from schools, citing excess administrative personnel; about 2,000 civil-service employees have already been dismissed nationwide, prompting protests from parents, teachers, and unions.

Education Secretary Arely Argueta reported that at least 3,174 schools nationwide require infrastructure repairs, with the ministry having begun work in various departments and seeking support from domestic and international partners.
