The near-threatened white bat (Ectophylla alba), a thumb-sized mammal found in Honduras's Mosquitia rainforests, constructs tent-like shelters from Heliconia leaves and faces threats from deforestation and habitat loss.

Hondurodendron urceolatum, a tree species discovered between 2004 and 2006 and officially described in 2010, exists nowhere on Earth except in Cusuco National Park in Cortés, underscoring the biodiversity value of Honduras's cloud forests.

Conservation group PRO-ALAS, in partnership with government and local tourism authorities, released eight scarlet macaws along the Cangrejal River near Pico Bonito National Park — the first wild population of the species in the region since the 1960s.
