Scarlet Macaws Return to La Ceiba After 60-Year Absence

Conservation group PRO-ALAS, in partnership with government and local tourism authorities, released eight scarlet macaws along the Cangrejal River near Pico Bonito National Park — the first wild population of the species in the region since the 1960s.
