A 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Friday off the Pacific coasts of Guatemala and Mexico, about 650 kilometers west of Tegucigalpa; Honduran authorities initially warned of possible tsunami waves of up to 30 centimeters in the Gulf of Fonseca but lowered the threat after revised measurements showed waves would stay below 10 centimeters.
