About 100 formal restaurants have closed in Honduras so far in 2026, the head of the Honduran Gastronomy Association says, as an economic downturn thins customer traffic and rising utility bills, water shortages, and operating costs squeeze the sector.

The national utility ENEE will carry out planned outages on September 8 across Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, Cortés, Yoro, and other regions for circuit maintenance and grid upgrades, with cuts lasting 4 to 8 hours depending on the area.
