As Tegucigalpa's water crisis deepens, the municipal government is buying over 2.4 million gallons from private wells to distribute via tanker truck, but experts warn that untreated well water risks gastrointestinal illness and urge chemical and bacterial testing before consumption.

A former IHSS hospital manager criticized the government's L10 million in payments to private hospitals for 145 surgical procedures, arguing that spending on private care cannot substitute for strengthening the weak public health system through better staffing, resources, and administration.

Honduras's Hospital Escuela will add six operating rooms beginning in October, enabling it to increase daily surgeries from roughly 60 to between 100 and 150 procedures as part of a broader push to strengthen the public health system.
