The president of Honduras's grain producers association is urging Congress to exempt the 15% tax on grain drying, citing a sharp rise in production costs and the impact on over a million quintals (about 45,000 metric tons) ahead of the September harvest season.

A severe drought linked to El Niño has killed over 200 cattle, wiped out grain harvests, and significantly reduced milk and meat production in major farming regions, with grain losses estimated at 2–3 million quintals (about 90,000–135,000 metric tons) of corn and beans.

Drought, soaring prices for seeds and fertilizer, and limited access to credit are cutting production of Honduras's staple grains, corn and beans, officials warn.

Agriculture Minister Moisés Molina warned that Honduras faces a prolonged dry season exceeding two months due to El Niño, threatening grain production and food security, though the government has allocated 1.5 billion lempiras in production incentives and will provide technical support to farmers.
