Honduras formalized a new Commission for the Prevention of Teen Pregnancy on August 31, part of a broader system to protect children's and adolescents' rights, with coordination across government agencies and international partners to address early pregnancy and its underlying causes.

Honduras's child-welfare agency (Senaf) documented 62 pregnancies among girls and adolescents so far in 2026, attributing them to sexual violence, and warned that many victims do not report abuse or seek institutional help.

The UNICEF representative in Honduras said the country has one of the world's highest rates of adolescent pregnancy, with over 20,000 girls becoming pregnant annually, many under age 15—cases classified as sexual assault—and called for coordinated action through schools, families, and communities to address both prevention and victim support.

The Social Development Ministry and UNFPA signed a 19-month, L7.6 million (about $305,000) agreement for the "Sembrando Futuros" project, which will directly serve 600 girls and adolescents across nine municipalities in seven departments, aiming to cut teen pregnancies, school dropout, and violence.
