Roatán's municipal government is evaluating a technology that transforms non-recyclable plastic waste into construction products such as bricks, tiles, and roof sheets, with the aim of reducing landfill burden.

The Public Ministry's environmental prosecutor in San Pedro Sula is ordering the municipal authority to clear a dangerous accumulation of garbage in Cofradía within 48 hours, citing health risks from contamination, vector breeding, and threats to water sources.

San Pedro Sula generates roughly 1,100 tons of solid waste daily, and a breakdown in trash collection is allowing much of it to reach the Chamelecón, Piedras, Bermejo, and Blanco rivers and stormwater canals, raising flood and public-health risks as the rainy season continues.

Environment Minister Juan Carlos Ramos is pushing Congress to approve a solid-waste law that has cleared first debate, saying it would unlock international funding for sanitary landfills and improve trash collection across Honduras's 298 municipalities.
