Transport union leader Wilmer Cálix says the government owes the sector L200 million (about $8 million) in compensatory bonuses—four months in San Pedro Sula and three in Tegucigalpa—and warned that without payment, drivers will need to work with authorities on operational changes to avoid service disruptions amid rising fuel costs.

The IHTT has intensified raids in the capital to remove unauthorized VIP taxis from circulation, confiscating roughly 50 vehicles so far and imposing fines of 11,000 lempiras and six-month vehicle seizures on operators of the estimated 900 illegal cabs competing with authorized taxi services.
