Tilapia Farming

In Honduras's dry corridor, a 57-year-old farmer in Intibucá is raising tilapia in a pond built on his land with training and support from World Vision, diversifying his family's food sources and income as prolonged droughts threaten traditional crop production.

A power cut in Catacamas, Olancho, triggered by a possum hitting electrical lines, shut down oxygen pumps and killed about 5,500 pounds of tilapia in two ponds, costing entrepreneur Johnny Flores over L300,000 (about $12,000) in losses.
