The Honduran Foundation for Children with Cancer plans to build a pediatric oncology clinic at the Southern Hospital in Choluteca, with Congressional backing, to allow southern-region children to receive treatment without traveling to Tegucigalpa.

Honduras's government will provide emergency food aid to approximately 40,000 families affected by drought in the southern region, and also plans infrastructure repairs and water projects to address longer-term effects of the dry spell.

The new Regional Hospital of the South in Choluteca, under construction by Chinese firm SFECO Group for $61.2 million, is among the most advanced of eight hospital projects promised in the previous administration, with completion targeted for August 2026.

Heavy rains flooded homes in Choluteca's Nueva Esperanza neighborhood, forcing residents to evacuate as water reached knee level, while authorities warn further rainfall is expected across southern and northern Honduras.
