Road Congestion

Construction on the El Carmen interchange—a tunnel-and-relief-channel project designed to ease traffic congestion in San Pedro Sula—has stalled because municipal and infrastructure officials have not cleared the right-of-way or relocated about 130 families living in the project zone.

Minibuses in San Pedro Sula are parking illegally and picking up passengers outside authorized stops, accounting for about half of the city's 100–120 daily traffic violations and creating congestion and pedestrian hazards; authorities say limited staff struggle to monitor the city's 2,000 bus stops.
