River Overflow

Torrential rains across Olancho and Gracias a Dios departments have cut off 80% of communities in Patuca municipality, leaving 30,000 people stranded with damaged roads, flooded crops, two missing young men, and over 60 families evacuated from Wampusirpi.

Rescue teams are searching for two men who disappeared while attempting to cross the swollen Wampú and Los Mangos rivers in Gracias a Dios and Olancho after heavy rains, with over 2,000 people displaced and homes damaged across the region.

Heavy rains over the weekend caused the Patuca River to overflow in three municipalities, forcing 160 families to evacuate and destroying crops including rice, cassava, plantains, corn, and cacao for 200–500 families in the region.

Rising waters on the Río Pataste have cut off communities including La Sabana and Hato Viejo in Olancho, leaving residents unable to move freely and calling on authorities for support.

Heavy rains swelled the Goascorán River, submerging the only road access to 16 communities in Costa de los Amates and leaving over 900 families isolated; authorities have deployed boats as a temporary measure while residents and local officials press for permanent infrastructure solutions.
