Honduras has recorded 315 cases of human screwworm infection (myiasis) in 2026, exceeding all of 2025, with three deaths among people over 70; health authorities urge preventive measures including keeping wounds covered and avoiding outdoor sleep near livestock areas.

Honduras has recorded 299 cases of myiasis caused by the screwworm fly as of mid-September, approaching the 300 cases reported for all of 2025, with Francisco Morazán accounting for most infections and health officials warning vulnerable groups to keep wounds covered.

Honduras's Health Ministry is maintaining epidemiological surveillance and urging stronger prevention measures as cases of myiasis caused by the screwworm (a parasitic fly larva) continue to emerge across the country.
