Irrigation

Agriculture Ministry plans to invest 350–400 million lempiras (roughly $14–16 million) in a nationwide irrigation program to install over 500 drip-irrigation systems, drill wells, and rehabilitate existing infrastructure, targeting 800–900 farmers across drought-prone regions including the dry corridor and benefiting an estimated 1,600 hectares.

Rehabilitation of water reservoirs in Choluteca and El Paraíso, costing 2.6 million lempiras (about $104,000), will help 1,500 farming families store water during dry seasons to irrigate crops including sorghum, corn, and vegetables.

Honduras's National Congress and the World Food Programme finalized a technical cooperation agreement to address severe drought affecting over 100 municipalities, targeting immediate food aid and longer-term irrigation and agricultural infrastructure.

The Agriculture Ministry will spend 140 million lempiras (about $5.6 million) rehabilitating irrigation districts to improve water efficiency and boost crop production on 12,000 hectares, helping farmers adapt to climate variability.

The Agriculture Ministry announced a L140-million investment (about $5.6 million USD) to rehabilitate irrigation districts across Honduras, aiming to improve water efficiency, strengthen farm production, and help farmers withstand droughts and climate variability.

Agriculture Minister Moisés Molina said Honduras requires approximately $16 billion in investment to fund irrigation projects that would modernize 500,000 acres of agricultural land.
