Forced Displacement

Police and prosecutors executed searches in Peñitas Arriba (El Merendón, San Pedro Sula) to dismantle the gang led by 'Juan El Malón,' accused of murders and terror that forced over 26 families to flee the community.

Honduras's human rights ombudsman reported rising child homicides, teen pregnancies, sexual abuse, gang recruitment, forced displacement, and child labor, attributing the crisis to state failures in protection and enforcement and calling for strengthened institutions.

The national human-rights commissioner called on the Honduran government to provide immediate assistance to victims of internal forced displacement before they are compelled to seek international protection by crossing borders.

Honduras's human-rights ombudsman reports that at least 23,000 people have been forcibly displaced from the country between 2010 and 2025, placing it sixth among 162 nations most affected by forced displacement.
