Dam Project

The Central American bank approved financing for the Quiebra Montes dam project, which will increase water supply to 190,000 residents of Tegucigalpa, reduce dry-season rationing from once every nine days to every three days, and save the government about 21 million lempiras annually in electricity costs.

The president of the Cortés Chamber of Commerce and Industry said the El Tablón dam project requires comprehensive technical studies and designs to ensure viability, following President Nasry Asfura's announcement of a new design.

Manuel Amador, president of the Water Boards, warns that the capital has a 100-million-cubic-meter water shortfall; he argues the proposed San José de Jacaleapa dam would add only 8 million cubic meters while over 200 neighborhoods lack piped water and 40% of users receive irregular service.
