Community Protest

The city council of El Progreso revoked a municipal vehicle-tax increase that sparked protests and roadblocks, and ruled that residents who already paid will receive a credit toward other municipal fees.

Residents of at least 12 communities in the El Hatillo and La Tigra areas blocked the main road demanding urgent repairs to roughly 12 kilometers of deteriorated highway that community leaders say has been neglected for years and causes accidents and vehicle damage.
