The fishing boat Reel Secret won the Billfish category at the Roatán International Fishing Tournament, claiming a historic first-place prize of nearly 2 million lempiras in what organizers say is Central America's largest sportfishing tournament purse.

The 27th Roatán International Fishing Tournament opened September 10, drawing sport fishermen from Honduras, Belize, the Cayman Islands, the US, Central America, Europe, and Africa, with top billfish prizes reaching $25,000 and the event qualifying competitors for the 2027 Offshore World Championship.

The reconstruction of Presentación Centeno Education Center in Diamond Rock, Roatán, a three-level building with 12 classrooms and administrative spaces, is expected to finish by late September under a 20-million-lempira (roughly $800,000) project.

Roatán's municipality is rolling out a structured training and certification program called Anfitriones del Destino (Destination Hosts) for tourism workers, including beach massage providers, to raise service standards and professionalize the sector.

Roatán's municipal government is hosting a free dental clinic from August 10–14 staffed by more than 20 dentists from Mexico, the United States, and Honduras, offering extractions, cleanings, sealants, and preventive care to an estimated 1,500 residents.

Roatán's municipal government and the Juan Brooks school's parent association have formed a technical committee to oversee reconstruction of the school at its current location, with work scheduled to begin in September or October 2026.

Roatán's municipal tourism office held a second training session for over 60 street vendors and tour operators in customer service, environmental practices, and visitor engagement as part of its Destination Hosts Program.
