A Liberal congresswoman confirmed discussions with US diplomats about Honduras's electric-sector reform and US investment opportunities, saying the US has made clear it has no interest in privatizing the state utility ENEE.

President Nasry Asfura requested that the United States evaluate each Honduran affected by the suspension of Temporary Protected Status on a case-by-case basis, noting that many have lived, worked, and built families in the US for decades since the program began after Hurricane Mitch 28 years ago.

President Asfura attributed the US cancellation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) affecting over 50,000 Hondurans to strained diplomatic relations between the previous Castro administration and the White House, saying that stance damaged the legal standing of Hondurans in the program for decades.

Human-rights defender Itmania Platero calls on the US president to temporarily reinstate Temporary Protected Status for Hondurans, citing rising crime and persistent poverty, while warning that Honduras lacks capacity to help those who would return if the program ends.

The US Embassy welcomes the Asfura administration's push to reform Honduras's electricity law, saying the changes would attract US investment, boost economic growth, strengthen energy security, and improve reliable and affordable power access for Hondurans.

Honduras's joint military commander said the country is in dialogue with the United States about joint "combat operations" against organized crime under Trump's Americas Anti-Cartel Coalition, with the decision resting with President Nasry Asfura.
