Honduras's tourism industry chamber says the part-time employment law approved by Congress in March has proven unworkable in practice, citing difficulty guaranteeing fixed hours or event-based contracts that the law requires, and is asking lawmakers to revise or reconsider its provisions.

Honduras's part-time employment law, which promised to generate opportunities since March 2026, has produced only 206 contracts across 43 companies, while restaurants and small businesses across the country announce closures, blamed partly on rising electricity costs.

The National Chamber of Tourism is calling for reforms to Honduras's part-time employment law, which caps hours at 18–32 per week and restricts hiring for seasonal peaks when hotels and restaurants need the most flexibility.

Honduras's Part-Time Employment Law, approved in March 2026 with promised creation of 40,000 jobs, has generated only 59 registered contracts as of June, prompting officials and ruling-party lawmakers to acknowledge the law has failed to meet expectations.
