Honduras has recorded more than 5,000 dengue cases so far in 2026, with one confirmed death, according to the health authority's surveillance chief, prompting fresh public-health alerts.

Honduras maintains epidemiological red alert after recording its first severe dengue death in 2026 and a rise in suspected domestic measles cases, with public-health experts urging immediate vaccination campaigns and early medical care to prevent outbreaks.

Honduras now requires proof of measles vaccination for its citizens traveling to Guatemala, Mexico, the US, and Canada, and for incoming travelers from those countries, after confirming 2 cases and 161 suspected cases of the highly contagious disease.

The Health Ministry launched a temporary "zero dose" of measles vaccine for children aged 6–11 months in response to regional outbreaks and two imported cases in Honduras, with vaccination also now required for travelers to Guatemala, Mexico, the US, and Canada.

A new measles case has been confirmed in Honduras, prompting Congressman and physician Bayron Banegas to urge health authorities to immediately implement epidemiological containment measures and strengthen disease surveillance to prevent wider transmission.
